Popular CBD French-brasserie La Louisiane extends hours after thriving debut

La Louisiane, a French brasserie-inspired restaurant and bar in Adelaide’s CBD, has extended its hours due to overwhelming demand.

Since its opening in July, La Louisiane, a French brasserie-inspired restaurant and bar in Adelaide’s CBD, has quickly become a beloved nightlife hotspot, captivating diners with its unique French flair and delicious cuisine, and as of this week, the venue is excited to extend its operating hours to include Tuesday nights.

Located beneath 89 King William St, La Louisiane offers a unique blend of French cuisine, live jazz, and a world-class beverage program, with the decision to open on Tuesday nights in response to the overwhelming demand from guests eager to indulge in La Louisiane’s eclectic and sophisticated French atmosphere.

La Lousiane is a collaboration between two prominent Adelaide hospitality names, Big Easy Group (who run Nola, House Of George and more) and Gonzo Group (owning Shotgun Willies, Memphis Slim’s House of Blues and Cry Baby). According to Big Easy Group co-founder Oliver Brown, La Louisiane is a passion project that seeks to create something uniquely different for South Australia.

‘We want people to be transported back to 1930s France, with a distinctly modern twist. This temporary restaurant activation is all about the details, and the cocktail and wine list are no exception’, says Brown.

The kitchen, led by Head Chef Alexis Besseau, formerly of Sydney’s renowned Restaurant Hubert, presents a menu rooted in classic French brasserie dishes. Diners can enjoy a range of dishes from Beef Tartare to Pate en Croûte, Steak Frites, and Creme Brûlée, and the emphasis on local South Australian produce is complemented by select imported French delicacies like Snails and Foie Gras—adding to the authenticity of the dining experience.

Besseau’s culinary journey began at the young age of 13 when he enrolled in culinary school in France. From there, he honed his skills at prestigious establishments such as l’Arpège in Paris before working in kitchens across London, Switzerland, and Brazil. Now, Besseau is bringing his expertise to Adelaide, following stints at renowned restaurants like Bathers Pavilion and Franca in Sydney.

‘When I came last year to do a collaboration dinner at Yiasou George, I spoke with guests who expressed a desire for more French restaurant options in Adelaide. After many chats with Oliver Brown, who shares the same love for hospitality as I do, we decided it would be great to work together and open a French restaurant here in Adelaide’, Besseau says.

La Louisiane’s meticulously curated wine and cocktail menu complements the culinary journey with its diverse selection, including the ‘Classics’ menu featuring the signature Le Lou’s Martini, offering a customisable martini experience.

‘We’ve put as much love and romance into the wine list as we have into the entire La Louisiane experience’, says Big Easy Group Operations Manager Jack Booker. ‘France’s rich wine history offers a benchmark comparison for some of our favourite Australian producers—we’re excited to showcase world-class wines alongside world-class moments.’

The extension of operation to Tuesdays means live jazz music will now enhance the La Lou atmosphere every night they’re open, contributing to the venue’s unique and elevated hospitality experience. With bookings now available for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, locals and tourists alike now have more opportunities to secure their place and experience this immersive journey through French cuisine, live jazz, and exceptional cocktails right here in SA.
