Everyone’s favourite Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt is returning this December for three days only with lights, stalls, entertainment, gifts, food, and so much more.
German settled town Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills is the perfect backdrop for the European-style Christmas Markets, with Yuletide markets in Germany stretching back hundreds of years. They traditionally have mouth watering aromas of glühwein, grilled sausages and hot chestnuts adding to the ambience of its beautiful towns.
Every year, Hahndorf transforms into a Christmas Winter Wonderland mimicking that tradition.
The Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt offers hot Glühwein, traditional Christmas ornaments, local handcrafted creators, and family-friendly Christmas activities.
The European-style Christmas Market was listed as #32 in the 2019 Best Christmas Markets in the world list by Big Seven Travel, ahead of the Cathedral X-Mas Market (Cologne, Germany), which ranked #33.
Last year, the market featured more than 40 stalls, showcasing everything from handmade Christmas ornaments and custom woodwork, to locally made gin and curry pastes. This year’s list of amazing stores, often boasting local goods and produce from the area, will be announced closer to the date.
This year the carols by candlelight will be every night at 9pm by a team of talented volunteers that are part of the C3 Church Adelaide Hills Worship Team. You’ll be able to purchase candles to sing along at the information stall for $3 each or $5 for two.
While no street parking or allocated disabled parking is available for this event, but the outdoor area is held on bitumen, allowing access for wheelchairs, walkers, and prams.
As you save these dates into your calendar, set aside extra time for travel! During peak times of the event, the crowd can be quite congested – not unlike the traffic, due to the road closure of Auricht Road.
Also remember to bring cash! Most stallholders are cash only, but there will be onsite ATM’s available, with some vendors providing eftpos/paypal facilities.
