If you’ve lived in Australia’s eastern states it’s highly likely you’ve heard of, and probably eaten at, one of the many Dosa Hut locations. The chain has just about reached cult-classic status with its flavourful canteen-style Indian fare, and now it’s opening a new restaurant in Adelaide.
This Sunday, 26 October, Dosa Hut is throwing open the doors to its new Flinders Street spot, with a grand launch buffet serving dosa, biryani, curries, and sides all in the one spread.
The new restaurant’s manager Mohammad, who recently relocated from Melbourne, said the expansion was driven by Adelaide’s impressive dining scene of late. “We thought Adelaide was a really exciting market, so we decided to open here,” he said, before putting some pep in Adelaide’s step. “People are really nice, and the weather is good. It’s peaceful and there’s not too much traffic.”
Prospect was also home to a Dosa Hut for some time, which closed post-pandemic.
The popular brand, which began in Melbourne in 2007, is known for its wide-ranging menu of Indian favourites, from street-style snacks and chaats to biryanis and traditional curries. Where it gets its name, though, is from a thin, savoury, South Indian crepe, often served with chutneys and sauces, the Dosa.
Located in the previous Taste Theory cafe location, the restaurant has been completely transformed with a new full kitchen and contemporary design. “We hired an interior designer who created a gold and green colour scheme with feature walls, and a new counter,” Mohammad said. “It looks fantastic. The restaurant now seats more than 80 people, and has a really cosy atmosphere.”
Dosa Hut’s story began with two university friends, Anil Kumar Karpurapu and Praveen Indukuri, who turned their love of South Indian food into an insanely popular nationwide restaurant franchise. The restaurant prides itself on its authenticity and customer service.
With its signature flavours, and flash new fitout, Dosa Hut is ready to bring a taste of its cult-classic Indian cuisine to Adelaide diners.
