Popular Mediterranean restaurant Yiasou George has re-opened as House of George

Mediterranean restaurant Yiasou George in Adelaide’s CBD has re-opened under the new name of, ‘House of George’.

Yiasou George opened with a bang in 2019, which became popular for its traditional Mediterranean menu with wood oven delights and continuously flowing ouzo. Now, it’s re-opened under a new name with a fresh new look and name: House of George.

The change was prompted by incoming Head Chef and legend of the Aussie food scene Sav Sexton. Led by him and Restaurant Manager Azi Flynn, George’s potential has been taken to new heights.

“With a name like ‘Yiasou George’ people came to expect traditional Greek cuisine, however House of George is all about taking inspiration from the greater Mediterranean and not being afraid to push the boundaries, putting our own spin on the classics and creating plenty of our own,” Says Head Chef Sav Sexton.

Fire will play an even bigger part of the kitchen where a custom open flame grill and rotisserie will join the existing wood oven. “Anticipate a menu driven by seasonality that is “licked over the fire and kissed by the Mediterranean” as Head Chef Sexton puts it.

Lamb porchetta will be a regular on the rotisserie, alongside Abelsway Farm chicken and whole seasonal veg from our favourite farmer Kas (K&R Produce). And never fear, fresh pita and wood oven lamb will be back and better than ever.

The customer experience is paramount across all Big Easy Group venues and House of George will be no different. Bringing the kitchen further into the space is a big part of that experience, “there’s a lot of excitement in watching people cook, especially over fire.

It creates unity between front & back-of-house teams, where guests get to watch all the action unfold.” says Jack Booker, Big Easy Group Operations Manager and Yiasou George Veteran.

House of George will have a small but rotating wine list featuring our favourite local producers, plus a few magnums for those looking to celebrate (because bigger is better, right). Accompanying the wine is a list of pre-batched cocktails created by Restaurant Manager Azi Flynn that can be served up quickly to keep the party going.

More than anything, House of George will be about having fun. Party shirts, disco balls and shots of ouzo bring the party atmosphere, which makes it the perfect place for a celebration.
