Drakes Supermarkets has announced its acquisition of IGA Mount Barker and Mount Barker Cellarbrations Liquor store, marking a significant expansion for the company.
With this latest addition, Drakes’ portfolio now comprises a total of 67 stores, including the Mount Barker Cellarbrations store, which becomes the sixth location under the Cellarbrations banner, joining others at Aston Hills, Eyre, Gawler East, Findon, and Wallaroo.
“I am very pleased that Drakes Supermarkets, a successful family-owned company here in South Australia, will be taking over Mount Barker IGA and Cellarbrations,” Jo Elson, owner of IGA Mount Barker, says.
Elson, who has been part of the Mount Barker community for the past 11 years, expressed gratitude to the customers, community, and her team, emphasising the support provided to local events, sporting clubs, suppliers, tradespeople, and job creation efforts.
The Mount Barker community can anticipate an enhanced shopping experience following the acquisition, with Drakes promising an expanded product range tailored to meet local needs, including an extensive meat selection and quality fresh produce sourced directly from Drakes Distribution Centre in Edinburgh. However, Drakes reassures customers that beloved products will remain stocked.
John-Paul Drake, Director of Drakes, expressed gratitude for Elson’s trust in entrusting her family business and team to Drakes.
“I hope we can make her proud by continuing to build on her hard work,” he said.
The company is dedicated to retaining the existing team members who have contributed to the success of the Mount Barker stores and looks forward to working alongside them as part of the extended Drakes family.
Excited to build upon the foundation established by IGA Mount Barker and Mount Barker Cellarbrations, alongside their Aston Hills stores, Drakes reaffirms its commitment to serving the Mount Barker community. The IGA Mount Barker will be rebranding to Drakes mini on April 8th, 2024.
