One of your favourite lemony soft drinks, Lift, will disappear from supermarket shelves in coming weeks, following Coca-Cola Australia’s decision to axe the drink in favour of Sprite Lemon+.
Rumours that Lift would be phased out first surfaced in July when Aussie TikToker Russ.Eats claimed the beverage was being “sent to the junk food graveyard”.
A staple for Aussies since the 1970s, Lift will be phased out by the new Sprite alternative, which is infused with caffeine. So, if the kids enjoy a lemony soft drink, Kirks lemon squash, pub squash, or Solo are going to have to be the go-tos moving forward!
“Ready-to-drink formats of Lift will be phased out of stores by the end of September 2022, except for Glass 330mL which will be phased out by the end of 2022,” a Coca Cola spokesperson told News.com.au in a statement.
“After listening to our customers, our focus is on our new Sprite Lemon+ range, which we believe will be popular with our existing Lift drinkers,” the spokesperson added.
Reactions to the news have been mixed, with some devastated to lose their hangover cure, while others claiming Solo is by far the superior choice regardless.
Lemon is my favourite flavor. I put lemon in EVERYTHING. Solo is my soft drink of choice, above all others.

Given another option- any other option- I would literally never drink Lift.
why doesn't Lift's death have the same wall-to-wall coverage as the Queen, media should be ashamed of itself https://t.co/sLpkrXaN3x

Others commenters claim the drink lost its iconic taste long ago due to recipe changes.
The news comes shortly after Mars Wrigley revealed it would be discontinuing popular lolly brand, Starburst.
As Starburst products are imported from Europe, the company chose to discontinue the Starburst product collection due to supply chain difficulties and rising cost pressures.
What next?!
