The City of Port Adelaide Enfield is transforming its end-of-year event into a MASSIVE three-day festival, comprising sporting events, night markets, live entertainment, Christmas celebrations, a Friday night street party, and more.
Taking place on 9, 10 and 11 December 2022, City of Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Claire Boan says the event will encapsulate all the amazing things Port Adelaide and its community does, in one place.
“We are so excited about our new Dockside Festival which will bring together sport, community, and culture right here in the heart of Port Adelaide,” says Mayor Boan.
“…There will be something for everyone with a street party, professional competitive and exhibition sports, come-and-try opportunities, as well as community activations, live music, hospitality precincts, markets, plus arts and cultural activations.
“The event runs on land and water, from the Lighthouse precinct right through to Harts Mill, with plenty of things to see, do, eat, and drink in between.
“This will be bigger and better than anything we have done before. We are creating an event our local community can be proud of, and I have no doubt it’ll be a staple in the South Australian events calendar for many years to come.”
The event will officially open from 4:45pm Friday 9 December at the stage near the Lighthouse, overlooking a huge hospitality precinct, bustling with plenty of fun, food, and entertainment for the whole family. Commercial Road will also be closed to make way for the Dockside Street Party, complete with live music, roving entertainers, rides, a Ferris wheel, laneway markets, Santa’s cave, and loads more.
Saturday will see the festival footprint grow across to Hart’s Mill, where there will be a hive of activity for the rest of the week. Expect sports demonstrations and community group displays, as well as an indoor mini-golf course, frisbee golf, and a roller skating rink delivered by the City of PAE Libraries family.
Another highlight includes the Mayfair Bakery’s inaugural Footlong Sausage Roll Eating Contest, taking place at 2pm Saturday 10 December. The contest has already attracted some big names, with Mayor Boan and ABC Radio Adelaide Presenter Jules Schiller signing up for the challenge.
“We’re super excited for Port Adelaide’s first and only sausage roll eating contest – who can eat the footlong sausage roll the fastest,” says Phil Donnelly of Mayfair Bakery. Find a video of how the sausage rolls are made here.
Local businesses throughout the Port will throw open their doors and take to the street. The Lighthouse Wharf Hotel will be hosting a huge Wharf Party Garden Weekend throughout the festival under a massive marquee right in the heart of the action. It includes a Kangaroo Island Gin tasting masterclass, a paint ‘n’ sip session by Paint Mentality (Caroline Wall), and Friday night tunes by DJ Jimmy Flamingo, so you can eat and drink the night away!
There will be a free shuttle bus loop from the Aviation Museum car park, Port Adelaide Train Station, Hart’s Mill and Black Diamond Square precincts from 11am on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon.
