Rebounding defender Matthew Broadbent has signed a long-term deal that will see him stay at Alberton until 2019.

The 24-year-old has played 111 games for the club since debuting in 2009.

Broadbent said he grew up supporting the Power and he’s very pleased to commit for four more years.

“The family has always been a part of this club since grandpa worked on the medical team, and I always loved the fact that I got to play for the club I grew up supporting, it’s an easy decision to sign on,” Broadbent said.

“I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of years here especially, and feel my footy’s been able to develop.

“Going forward I want to keep playing my role in the team consistently, it’s something I’m really focussed on.

“I’ll be 29 by the time my contract comes up again and the chance to be part of this really dedicated group of guys working together is great.”

Senior coach Ken Hinkley welcomed the contract-extension and said Broadbent was a terrific team player.

“Broady has been a very consistent performer for a number of years and we are very pleased that he’s committed to the club long term.”

“He’s demonstrated a great willingness to learn and he continues to strive to make himself and the team better.

Broadbent finished second in the John Cahill Medal in 2012 and has kicked 41 goals, mainly as a rebounding defender.
