The iconic Globe Hotel in Port Adelaide is on the cusp of an extensive refurbishment, set to emerge as a quality hospitality venue.

Nestled on the corner of St Vincent Street, this historic property is set to undergo a transformation to include three ground-floor tenancies ideal for retail or other food and beverage concepts.

Established in 1850 as the Carpenters’ Arms and later renamed the Globe, this site holds a rich history, with a fire in 1865 leading to its reconstruction. Over the years, it evolved into the Golden Port Tavern, serving the Port Adelaide community for almost 150 years until its closure in 2008.

The long-anticipated revitalisation of the Globe Hotel has experienced delays, with the State Commission Assessment Panel deferring its approval decision in 2021 for the originally proposed seven-storey, 64-room hotel on the premises. The decision cited the need for further considerations, including increasing available parking, optimising goods delivery and waste removal arrangements, and addressing visitor drop-off and pick-up logistics.

The Ginos Group, known for its successful developments in Adelaide’s city centre, is now revisiting its plans for the Globe Hotel’s revival. Their vision is to transform it into a premier hospitality venue for locals and visitors alike.

In 2018, The Ginos Group acquired the Globe Hotel for $1.6 million. A lot of their work is in preserving the heritage and character of their properties while modernising them to suit contemporary work and lifestyle needs.

Their interest in the Port aligns with the timing of other residential developments popping up in the area, particularly with the funding injection proposed from the AUKUS submarine project.

The Globe Hotel project is just one of several initiatives undertaken by The Ginos Group in Port Adelaide, including their management of The Dockside Tavern and redevelopment of the historic Port Adelaide Woolstores. These endeavours reflect their dedication to revitalising and contributing to the growth of the Port Adelaide area, while honouring its rich history.
