Port Adelaide’s new pedestrian footbridge is taking shape, with construction well underway, and recent drone photos showing the first major steps in the project. Designed and built by Largs North-based BluBuilt, the bridge will become a major feature of the area, connecting Dock One to the Port Approach. While it was originally scheduled to be finished by the end of 2024, the completion date has now been pushed to around Easter this year.
The 80-metre-long bridge will cross the Port River and provide an important link for pedestrians and cyclists. It will connect people to the promenade around the dock, making it easier to get around. At three meters wide, the bridge will also provide better access for the 650 homes being built in the Dock One community, allowing residents to travel more easily within the area.
BluBuilt has partnered with architects Grieve Gillet Anderson to finalise the detailed design work, so the project meets both functional and aesthetic requirements before construction proceeds.
The bridge will improve access to public transport along St Vincent Street, connecting the waterfront community to the wider Port Adelaide area. This project is part of a bigger effort to revitalise the region by providing better, essential infrastructure and more housing to support a growing population. The Dock One precinct is especially important for attracting workers and helping the local economy grow.
The $5 million bridge is being funded by Renewal SA and developer Kite Projects. Once completed, it will be owned and maintained by Renewal SA, ensuring it becomes an important part of the community. The City of Port Adelaide Council has strongly backed the project and its importance for improving local access and activating the Dock One precinct.
As construction continues, all eyes will be on the progress of this landmark project, with the bridge set to play a key role in shaping the future of Port Adelaide.
