Port Augusta new leader in regional fuel ratings

FuelPort Augusta has shot to the lead in RAA’s Regional Fuel Ratings this month, at a time when most of the industry has failed to pass on a drop in the wholesale price as quickly as they passed on the last price increase.

RAA Senior Analyst Chris West said across South Australia the overall ratings have fallen from 3.0 to 2.4 in April.

“It’s the first time Port Augusta has taken the lead, moving from 15th place six months ago,” said Mr West.

“Post Augusta’s rating of 3.5 this month is thanks to them having the best rated petrol in the state, with fair prices for Diesel and LPG also.

“The only other town to receive a ‘Fair’ rating overall was Loxton with 3.1, which missed out on the top spot due its poor LPG prices rated at 1.9.”

The worst performers this month with ‘Poor’ overall ratings were Bordertown (1.8), Broken Hill (1.6), Ceduna (1.4) and Coober Pedy (1.4).

“The poor ratings in these towns were caused by their petrol, diesel and LPG ratings all falling well below average, because they failed to pass on recent cost price reductions,” said Mr West.

Looking forward to May, wholesale prices for petrol, diesel and LPG are all falling yet again.

“With this in mind we would expect to see the price of all fuel types begin to fall in regional areas over the coming weeks,” said Mr West.

“If the industry however, continues to drag its feet when passing on cost price reductions, they will be solely responsible for country motorists paying more than they should.”
