Port Elliot’s, Cockles Café, introduce Summer Sunday Sessions and pop-up gelati bar

If you’re heading down South this summer, a stop at the iconic Cockles Cafe is a must with their fresh new menu and stand-out coffee.

If you’ve ever ventured to the seaside suburb of Port Elliot, you’ve no doubt stopped past Cockles Café. Sitting proudly on the main strip, the iconic eatery has been serving up fresh, tasty meals and delicious coffee to both locals and holidaymakers alike for over 15 years and with summer now in full swing, the team are gearing up for another fun-filled holiday season.

It all kicks off with the release of the vibrant new menu that perfectly encapsulates the summer vibe with coconut and coriander-crusted fish tacos, nasi goreng and pork belly burgers all on offer.

“The new menu is reflective of Summer and people coming down to Port Elliot for a beachside getaway,” says Cockles Café owner, Amanda Martin.

“We’ve added a few new items but also kept some favourites, like the Nasi Goreng, which has been on the menu forever and is always a best seller. People would be so upset if we took it off!”

Amanda and her partner Jeff took over the café from its previous owners in September of 2021 and have loved every minute, taking it from strength to strength.

“We’ve been in hospitality for over 10 years in Port Elliot and when the opportunity arose to take over Cockles, we were so excited and we’ve loved every minute since,” says Amanda.

Along with a new menu, Amanda and Jeff have also set up a pop-up Gelista gelati stand, serving 9 delicious flavours to passers-by for a quick, easy and delicious way to cool off from the summer heat.

And while the food may change with the seasons, Cockles expertly made coffee remains the same with the trained baristas serving up delicious cups of Grinders coffee to have in store or to take on the go. With a mission to only ever serve the best, Cockles have used Grinders coffee since the beginning, with the coffee giants a huge supporter of the local business.

The usually sleepy town of Port Elliot comes to life during the warmer months with people flocking to the area to take advantage of the beautiful beaches and laidback lifestyle and to accommodate, Cockles Café will now be open for Sunday Sessions each week throughout the month of January.

With live entertainment on the deck from 3:30pm, you can enjoy tapas and a cocktail while relaxing in the sunshine.

“We wanted to give people something fun and different to do down South in January, particularly on Sundays when lots of things close early,” says Amanda.

“We’ve got some great local musicians lined up and really just want people to come down, unwind and make the most of the warmer evenings.”

Ring in 2023 with the very first Sunday Session, which just happens to fall on New Years Day!

Whether you’re in the area for an extended summer break or just passing through for the day, a stop at Cockles Café is a must.

Cockles Café is located at 4/33 North Terrace, Port Elliot.
