Wotif has announced the winners of the 2023 Aussie Town of the Year Awards, and SA’s Port Lincoln has made the esteemed list.

Trends have showed that Aussie travellers are carving out their own long weekends on the calendar, opting for shorter, more frequent domestic trips.

The crown returns to New South Wales, as Albury claims this year’s win. The border town has
become far more than a pit-stop destination in the recent years, it’s timeless elegance proving popular as always.

Bundaberg in Queensland and New Norfolk in Tasmania round out the top three while SA’s Port Lincoln takes number four, the stunning beachside destination proving popular.

Nestled on the picturesque Eyre Peninsula, Port Lincoln is best known for its incredible views, blue water and delicious world-class seafood.

Arguably the foodie pick of the year, this vibrant coastal town which is often refered to as ‘the seafood
capital of Australia’, is situated on one of the largest, protected natural harbours in the world and
offers ocean adventures, wildlife experiences, incredible seafood and beautiful wines.

Think oyster farms, the only place in Australia you can swim with Great White Sharks and the place to sit back and enjoy the sea-to-plate food journey, Port Lincoln has it all.

Around 49% of all Australians plan to take short trips of up to 3 nights, with many wanting to explore their own state, these awards mark the great places people should visit around Australia and serve as the ultimate travel map.

“By all accounts, Aussies remain committed to travelling locally in 2023,” said Wotif Managing Director, Daniel Finch.

“While cost considerations are top of mind for everyone this year, it’s clear travellers are not deterred and instead are prioritising accessible, experience-rich getaways. We know 29% of Aussies are open to travelling to new destinations this year to keep costs down.”

“We hope by spotlighting these deserving destinations, all of which are extremely accessible, the awards inspire Aussies to explore and connect with regional destinations beyond the typical tried and tested.”
