One of Port Piries historic waterfront venues is set for a major refreshed renovation bringing in a modern air to the decade old hotel.
The Ellen Hotel is entering a new era as a premium 19-room destination for leisure, corporate and weekend travellers.
The refresh is being led by owners Sunil Kumar Singh and Swati Mittal, who want to elevate its design, comfort and guest experience to position The Ellen as an upscale stay within the Ascend Collection by Choice Hotels.
“The refresh focuses on modernising guest rooms, improving common areas, upgrading furnishings and amenities, and enhancing the overall presentation of the hotel,” Sunil said.
“Our goal for the refresh is to create a more contemporary, comfortable, and welcoming environment for both business and leisure travellers.”
The transformation will be done in stages, and will see guest rooms and shared spaces modernised, furnishings upgraded, and amenities refined over the next 6–12 months.
Upgrades already in play include complimentary unlimited barista coffee for in-house guests, along with access to additional facilities such as a swimming pool and BBQ area at a sister property in Port Pirie, the Comfort Inn Flinders on Main.
The design direction is focused on creating a more contemporary boutique feel, balancing modern comfort with the charm of Port Pirie’s waterfront setting.

The project is aiming to repositioning the hotel as Port Pirie’s emerging boutique stay, blending contemporary design with the character of its coastal heritage.
“The design direction has been guided by a desire to create a property that feels modern, welcoming, and comfortable, while still reflecting the character of Port Pirie,” Sunil said.
“We are also proud to have two young and dynamic chefs leading our kitchen, bringing fresh energy and creativity to Ellen Hotel,” Sunil said.
“The menu is designed to offer a mix of classic favourites and modern touches, ensuring it remains approachable while still feeling fresh and relevant.”
Sunil also hinted at introducing a new complimentary à la carte breakfast offering as part of staying at the hotel.
The renovations are set to be underway very soon and completed within the next year, giving the coastal town a refreshed accommodation offering it’s currently lacking.
