Buchfelde bushfire warning downgraded to monitor conditions

The BUCHFELDE bushfire is burning in a south easterly direction towards Hillier Road.

Update at 3:57pm

Issued for BUCHFELDE, approximately 3km west of Gawler in the Mid North.

CFS advises that crews are continuing to work on stopping the spread of a grass fire burning near Buchfelde, close to the Gawler River, approximately 3km West of Gawler.

CFS crews on 16 trucks are in attendance with the support MFS and SAAS crews. Firefighters may be continuing to work on this fire during the night to ensure the heavy vegetation is fully extinguised.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be arcing off a nearby power line.

Although the threat to the community has reduced, this fire is continuing to burn slowly in the river bed in heavy vegetation and this is producing a lot of smoke which may be visible for several hours. 

The community are advised to close all windows and doors and stay inside, especially those with respiratory or cardiac conditions. 

To ensure your safety, and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.

A bushfire burning in Buchfelde, approximately 3km west of Gawler, has had its warning downgraded to monitor conditions.

Stay informed if you are in this area. Decide what you will do if the situation changes.

At this time there is no threat to life or property and firefighters are attending this fire.

More information will be provided by the CFS when it is available.

UPDATE AT 2:22PM:

CFS crews on 12 trucks are in attendance with the support of 5 aircraft and MFS crews, and will remain at the scene until the fire is fully extinguished.

The fire has been slowed in the river bed, and crews are working to restrict further spread of the fire on the southern side of the river. 

Smoke is impacting roads in the area, and visibility may be reduced. Smoke may continue to be visible for several hours, as it is burning along the river bed.

To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.

Extreme Fire Risk Across the State

The warning comes as South Australia swelters under soaring temperatures, with a forecast high of 39 degrees, prompting the Bureau of Meteorology to issue fire weather warnings for multiple regions.

Total Fire Bans have been declared for today across nine Fire Ban Districts, all classified under Extreme fire danger:

• West Coast

• Eastern Eyre Peninsula

• Lower Eyre Peninsula

• Mid North

• Mount Lofty Ranges

• Yorke Peninsula

• Kangaroo Island

• Upper South East

• Lower South East

The Total Fire Ban will remain in effect until midnight tonight, with authorities warning of extremely hazardous conditions that could see fires spread rapidly.
