Privacy for miles! Oceanview Eco Villas wins best eco-luxury accommodation in KI

Oceanview Eco Villas have come away with not one, but two awards from LUXlife 2022 Resorts and Retreats Awards.

South Australia’s darling Kangaroo Island is home to some of the most spectacular sights and industry, and its luxury accommodation is no exception.

Oceanview Eco Villas have come away with not one but two awards from LUXlife 2022 Resorts and Retreats Awards.

The villas came out on top in the ‘Best Eco Luxury Accommodation Kangaroo Island’, and ‘LUXlife Gourmet Dining Award Kangaroo Island’ categories.

Shortly after opening Oceanview Eco Villas in 2020, owners Tim and Tamsin Wendt had a fairly challenging year, along with the rest of the world. But through their tenancy for this passion project, success and admiration ensued. They saw the incredible fruits of labour by servicing their guests with an unforgettable experience.

“We’ve only been open less than three years and our amazing team has been an incredible help. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t have the best of starts. We opened 6 weeks before the bush fires, and within 8 weeks of opening we were shut because of the pandemic.

“Within that time we really worked hard on our menus with our incredible chefs. Our food and our meals are something that we chose to focus on perfecting,” Tamsin says.

Oceanview Eco Villas’s key ethos is to enjoy both premium luxury and sustainability whilst also providing a second-to-none private dining experience. But one of the most impressive parts about this place is its commitment to grounding the accommodation with the values of the owners.

“Even though you’re off-grid, it doesn’t mean that you will need to compromise your experience. And off-grid to most people means just solar panels, but it’s so much more than that. Our carpets are made from repurposed fish nets from across the world, we use single-origin chocolate in our kitchen, we utilise the wonderful local produce of the island, and we even source materials from a single tree so there isn’t a large footprint.

“We always try to protect and serve the flora and fauna. I think of ourselves more as custodians rather than owners and we want our guests to leave with a connection to the KI that they may have never had before,” Tamsin says.

Planning for the future is something that is always on the front of the Wendt’s minds. Oceanview Eco Villas will be launching guided tours to showcase the very best of the island, without having to drive all day.

“If our guests leave feeling better than when they arrive, we’ve done our job,” Tamsin says.
