Professor Alice Roberts, renowned for her work in human biology and history, will present her all-new live show, “From Cell to Civilisation,” at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Tuesday November 26th this year. The event will explore questions about our origins, identity, and what it truly means to be human.
“For thousands of years, such questions have been explored through philosophy and religion, but the answers now seem to lie firmly within the grasp of an empirical approach to the world and our place within it,” (Lateral Events).
Professor Roberts will take her audience on an journey tracing the evolution of life from its origins 3.8 billion years ago, to the rise of early civilisations. The show will follow the migration of our ancestors from Africa across Asia, along the Indian coastline to Australia, and then north into Europe and Siberia, leading up to the settlement of the Americas. Along this journey, Professor Roberts will introduce different human species and explore the complexities of ancient societies.

Professor Roberts, an academic, writer, and broadcaster, began her career as a doctor before shifting her focus to academia. She has dedicated years to teaching clinical anatomy and researching human origins through ancient bones.
Her passion for combining human biology with history has led her to present over a hundred television documentaries and write several popular science books. Her book The Incredible Unlikeliness of Being was shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize in 2015.
Roberts has become a leading figure in making science accessible through her work in television and outreach. Her role as Professor of Public Engagement with Science at the University of Birmingham has further cemented her commitment to sharing knowledge widely.
Join Professor Alice Roberts at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on November 26th for a thought-provoking evening that explores the story of humans; from single cells to complex civilisations.
