From karaoke singer to urban popstar, local boy Malo Brando sees a world of opportunity for his career in music. This Filipino born musician moved to Australia at a young age and now calls Adelaide home.
‘I started singing karaoke with the family at the age of four. My Mum would always make sure I sang a song before I was allowed to go out and play,’ says Malo. Malo comes from a family of musicians and dancers who he claims have heavily influenced his dream of pursuing music.
With Prince, Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye as some of his musical influences, Malo has set himself to reach for the stars – and they are looking pretty close! His hit song Hotel (I will) featuring Kevin Mendoza (Adelaide artist) is on high rotation with Fresh 92.7 and is frequently requested by listeners. Along with the success of Hotel (I will), Malo has been nominated for a Music Oz Award as a finalist for favourite pop song.
Our ambitious Adelaide artist is always busy working on his next musical project. He is currently brushing up the finishing touches of his latest mixtape Dear Love which he says is a combination of songs based on true stories from his life. Malo sees honesty as the best policy for his music. Stuck in my head, one of the songs featured on the mixtape is due to be released in two weeks.
Malo’s manager, Michael Timson, Timson Management Group (artist management development), says there is a lot more in store for Malo’s musical career in the coming months. With a few surprises up his sleeve, the name Malo is sure to be remembered by music lovers across the country.
