Prohibition Liquor Co launches art-inspired gin celebrating Dale Chihuly’s debut at Adelaide Botanic Garden

A creative fusion of art and nature is on offer, with Prohibition Liquor Co’s new Chihuly in the Botanic Garden Gin, crafted with unique botanicals from Adelaide Botanic Garden to commemorate Dale Chihuly’s exhibition.

Adelaide’s award-winning distillery, Prohibition Liquor Co, has launched a new, limited-edition gin that honours the art of Dale Chihuly, renowned for his striking glass installations. The Chihuly in the Botanic Garden Gin arrives just in time to celebrate Chihuly’s Garden Cycle exhibition, which marks its first appearance on Australian soil, hosted exclusively in Adelaide.

The new offering from Prohibition Liquor Co incorporates a unique blend of botanicals handpicked from the Adelaide Botanic Garden. This meticulously crafted gin integrates flavours such as kumquat, fruit-salad sage, and Buddha’s hand citrus, alongside honey from the local beehives of the garden. These elements are combined with other botanicals including juniper, Californian sagebrush, lemon thyme, chamomile, galangal, cardamom leaf, and tangelo, ensuring a taste that reflects the vibrant and dynamic essence of Chihuly’s artworks. Each sip promises a fresh, herbal, and zesty experience, mirroring the sensory journey found within the natural surroundings of the garden.

Adam Carpenter, Founder of Prohibition Liquor Co, shared his thoughts on this creative endeavour. “It’s an honour to celebrate Dale Chihuly’s extraordinary artwork through our craft gin. We’ve drawn on the stunning botanicals from Adelaide Botanic Garden to create a gin that’s as bold and visually striking as Chihuly’s installations,” he said. The spirit of this initiative is further captured by the involvement of Prohibition’s Head Distiller, Hugh Lumsden, who collaborated closely with the horticultural team at the Botanic Garden to select the most expressive and unique botanicals for the gin.

Adding to its allure, the gin is presented in a beautifully designed bottle, making it an attractive addition to any collection and a striking feature for the summer season. Retailing at $99, Chihuly in the Botanic Garden Gin is available for purchase online, at the Prohibition Liquor Co Tasting Room on Gilbert Street, or at Prohibition’s new pop up bar at Seppeltsfield. Each bottle sold will include a donation to support the Botanic Garden.

Across the city more broadly, you can also find the unique limited edition Chihuly Gin, featured in various cocktails served at selected bars and venues around Adelaide. It’s part of the Adelaide Economic Development Agency’s “Adelaide Celebrates Glass” City Trail, which promotes locations that offer the specialty Chihuly in the Botanic Garden Gin cocktails. You can find the venues via the “Adelaide Celebrates Glass” window stickers or webpage.
