In the ever-evolving world of spirits, the team at Prohibition Liquor Co is setting a new benchmark with the launch of their much-anticipated Field Blend Shiraz Gin.
This remarkable concoction, a red wine steeped gin, promises to elevate the Shiraz Gin category to new levels. Crafted meticulously over eight years, this gin is not just a drink, but an experience that transports you straight to the lush vineyards of McLaren Vale.
Before even making the shelves, this masterpiece has already clinched gold at the recent Australian Distilled Spirit Awards in Melbourne, catapulting Prohibition Liquor Co to the prestigious title of Champion Australian Distiller.
Prohibition Co-founder Adam Carpenter says ‘We have waited 8 years to release our take on a ‘wine infused’ gin, but wanted to ensure we were making something truly different to the rest of the market – Field Blend is it!’
Drawing inspiration from traditional winemaking techniques, where a medley of grape varietals are co-fermented, the gin embodies the essence of McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean climate. This climate nurtures the growth of low-acid, full-bodied fruits, providing the perfect base for this gin.
This year’s blend boasts a rich array of varietals including Shiraz, Grenache, Nero d’Avola, Chardonnay, Touriga, Mataro, and Tempranillo, all naturally steeped in Prohibition Original Gin for up to six weeks. This process ensures a depth of flavour and a seamless integration of elements.
Head Distiller, Hugh Lumsden highlights: ‘We hand-picked (literally) these grape varietals for their unique characteristics, to add lift, structure and a symphony of flavour – what’s exciting is that every year will change character with the seasons and the varietals we select’.
The Field Blend Shiraz Gin is textured and lifted with notes of violets, elderflower, and raspberries, harmoniously blended with a distinct piney juniper backbone. Its versatility shines through in a variety of cocktails, from a vibrant spritz to a spectacular gin sour, or simply enjoyed neat on ice, unveiling a symphony of flavours with every sip.
‘We love that this gin drinks amazingly well neat on ice, but comes to life with tonic or dry ginger and makes some incredible cocktails – it’s the perfect gin for a wine drinker, and highly versatile for drinks creation at home.’ says Adam.
Prohibition Field Blend Shiraz Gin is available for $92 from today, at the Prohibition distillery in Gilbert Street, or for purchase online here.
