Rundle Mall is set to launch its Autumn/Winter season fashion with a series of parades on 25th and 26th March under the Gawler Place canopy.
Whilst most of us think of Rundle Mall as one fabulous retail strip, the precinct also includes over 30 laneways, arcades and alleys –all with their own unique secrets whether they involve ghosts from darker days of centuries past or fabulously interesting retail or business outlets to be discovered by passersby.
With their own distinctive style of architecture awaiting discovery, Rundle Mall has paid tribute to the lanes, alleys and arcades of the Rundle Mall precinct by inviting our most creative young designers currently studying an Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology at TAFE SA to create a garment depicting one of these treasures of our city.
The brief included a colour palette, budget and that the garment must depict the character or features of a particular lane, arcade or alley – and must include its name ‘somewhere’.
Rundle Mall Manager Martin Haese said “we’ve wanted to involve the fashion design students for some time with one of our season launches and with their course relocating to the city complex the timing was perfect. 20 of the students have embraced the concept and we can’t wait to show them off to the public next week. On viewing the creativity and innovation used by these students inthe design of the garments – it’s exciting to think that these young people are our state’s fashion future – and I think it’s in pretty good hands ”.
The garments are to be judged by a panel of experts from the fashion world including Tanya Powell and Tamara Nicole (Rundle Mall’s in House Stylist) with the top 3 to be featured in the parades.
All other garments will be on display near the Gawler Place Canopy over the season launch duration.
“David Jones – an icon of Rundle Mall hasn’t done its own instore parades for a little while so we’re thrilled to have them included in the Rundle Mall parade this season” said Mr Haese.
The Rundle Mall Autumn/Winter 2011 parades will be held at 12 noon, 1:30pm, 5:30pm and 7pm on Friday 25th and 12noon, 1pm and 2pm on Saturday 26th March featuring over 40 retailers from throughout the Rundle Mall precinct on the 22 metre long catwalk. Rundle Mall is also pleased to announce that David Jones will be included in the parades for the first time featuring labels such as Alex Perry and Willow.
