Proper Late Night Dining Has Arrived In Adelaide

Adelaide has a supper club to call our very own along opening along Grenfell Street this Friday. Your jaw will drop when you visit The Propaganda Club.

Let’s call a spade a spade Adelaide; you’ve had issues with late night dining for a long time now. While families are eating dinner out in inner Sydney at 11pm, we’re all either desperately scraping the bottom of the chip packet, pretending that liquor is food, or stomaching a cardboard box of something we’d never touch with a ten foot pole unless absolutely necessary. While Glam have tried to address this before with our Late Night Dining Guide, we have not come across anything in Adelaide quite like this before. In fact, this has squealing like little school girls!

Starting this Friday, June 10, Adelaide will have a proper late night dining experience, serving incredible full meals until close at 6am. Why has it taken so long?!

You might think that what’s behind the massive wooden sliding door at 110 Grenfell Street is exclusive, but let us assure you The Propaganda Club are promising to be anything but. This is for all of Adelaide, and really intends to blow a bit of a raspberry back in the direction of the old establishment in this town. Walk ins are encouraged, there is no minimum spend on bookings and from Tuesday to Saturday (or Sunday Morning if you like), you will be greeted by the concierge, can check your coat and head on down at whatever hour for whatever you please.

The grand front door is matched by an equally grand reveal as the main dining room slowly appears as you walk down the stairs to the restaurant staff. It appears opulent and old worldly, but again, that’s just their sense of play. It doesn’t matter if you’re in your high-vis and a bit rough around the edges. There’s still a seat waiting for you.

To the left of the entrance lies the main bar and a collective of some of Adelaide’s finest cocktail makers. An outstanding espresso Martini and house infused honeycomb vodka stand out amongst the impressive selection of liqour, but it’s not over-complicated. The staff are eager to hear what you’re after and match the perfect drink to your tastes. The low open lounge that accompanies the waiting area is a lubricant for conversation. You need not even want a meal, this bar would sit comfortably anywhere in the world as a destination.

A DJ Booth offsets the corridor to the main service area as you are walked to the main dining room. Low seated booths surround three main high stool long tables. Again, the idea is to be social and the wait staff are on top of literally every whim to ensure that remains your focus. The menu is straight forward; 5 small plates and 4 large plates, all intended to share. You should not look past the Snapper Carpaccio; take all the elements on a fork at once and the flavour literally explodes in your mouth, in line with some of the finest dining Adelaide serves up. Steak Tartare with quail egg is another sensational dish that compliments the other vegetarian plates on offer well, especially the Beetroot three ways which is a true exercise in food porn.

The larger plates are designed to really hit the spot if your stomach is growling. The Baby Barramundi especially melts off the bone with a beautiful marojam and tomato base sauce to compliment. The Cheese plate is generous, as it should be and the BBQ Boston Bird with crunchy potato undoubtedly the best chicken available after midnight in this city.

It’s hard to see how you would be dissatisfied by the what The Propaganda Club has to offer, but we’re flush with dozens of venues in Adelaide at the moment who promise the same. So aside from their late night angle, what is the point of difference? Simply put, it seems like it’s going to be the people involved. The atmosphere is set by a team who are committed to outstanding service and really, when it comes down to it, when it’s 11.30pm and you’re starving, it’s freezing outside and you just want to be taken care of, that is going to be a significant part of Propaganda becoming as full on a Tuesday night as they are over the weekend. And while there will be a few naysayers doubting if Adelaide can make that happen, in this venue, without question, it’s possible.

That’s truly exciting.
