The City of Charles Sturt has put together a proposal for a new community hub to be built in Henley Beach. The idea behind the concept is to provide a communal space for locals to come together, connect and share knowledge.

The hub will be built in the location of the current Henley Library on Seaview Road with architects working alongside key stakeholders to develop a design concept to best serve the community.

The updated library, complete with study and reading areas, be complimented by the addition of 7 individual community rooms of varying sizes that will be available for use by external groups. A community kitchen, dedicated creative space and a covered outdoor area are also planned. Art displays will be erected with available exhibition space for local artists.

Council-run programs will also be on offer with a strong focus on supporting social connection through classes in cooking and nutrition, digital literacy and fitness.

Homage will be paid to the long history of the building through the new fit-out of the previous Henley Council Chamber Rooms, which will now be recognised as a community activity space. The Soldiers Memorial and Henley Historical Society Room will remain to exisiting standards.

The build is still in the conception stage with The City of Charles Sturt currently speaking to members of the local public to gauge their opinion. Talks and surveys have been on-going since last year with responses and feedback being used to create the current concept designs.

Comments and concerns are still very much welcomed by the council in order to make this space a welcomed retreat for the whole community. Face-to-face sessions will be held over the coming weeks or alternatively, feedback can be left through their online platform.

Community conversations will be held in Henley Beach on March 9th at 11am and again in Grange on March 17th at 2pm.
