The brightly coloured, graphic poster was jointly designed by Adelaide-based illustrator and theatre designer Jonathon Oxlade and Melbourne-based designer Chris More.

Adelaide Fringe Director Greg Clarke said the winning design was exactly what they were looking for and had encapsulated the 2015 theme of ‘Experience something new’.

“The poster’s originality, wild vibrancy, and playfulness captures the essence of the Adelaide Fringe and the fun interpretation of a bandleader really made it stand out creatively,” Mr Clarke said.

Mr Oxlade said the psychedelic 1960s, the sunny colour yellow and the puppet from 1970s children’s television show H.R. Pufnstuf inspired the design.

“We like its simple, geometric sophistication and to us it feels like a fun and charming detour from a typical character design choice,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to seeing our fresh bandleader’s watchful eye looking out over the 2015 Fringe.”

In keeping with Adelaide Fringe’s open-access nature, there is a long history of the Fringe poster being chosen from a competition that anyone can enter.

This year, entries were received from across Australia and around the world from as far as Bulgaria, Morocco and the Netherlands.

The winning design will start to appear around Adelaide as anticipation for next year’s Fringe, the largest arts festival in Australia, builds.

Adelaide Fringe gift vouchers are now available for purchase at adelaidefringe.com.au and make the perfect gift for Christmas.
