Puppy Palooza! Over 30 adorable pups seek forever homes at RSPCA’s huge adoption event

The RSPCA SA’s Puppy Palooza is happening from Friday at O’Halloran Hill, where over 30 puppies are up for adoption.

RSPCA South Australia is set to launch a major adoption campaign this Friday at their Animal Care Centre at O’Halloran Hill. The event, named “Puppy Palooza,” aims to find forever homes for over 30 puppies currently under the care of the organisation. The event kicks off at 10am and run for three days.

These young dogs have found themselves at RSPCA SA due to a surge in surrenders over the past two months. Many of these are from owners who could not cope with the care demands of litters and pregnant dogs. Billy Tubman, RSPCA SA Head of Animal Operations, shared insights into the challenges some of these puppies have faced. “We had a litter of ten puppies who were only four-weeks-old arrive in a washing basket last month without their mother, which is far from ideal for pups that young,” Tubman remarked. He also mentioned a significant case from May, a pregnant dog who gave birth to nine puppies by the end of June. Fortunately, the mother, named Darla, has already been adopted.

During the adoption event, puppies will be brought to the centre by volunteer foster carers. If not adopted during the day, they will return to their foster homes at night. Tubman highlighted the vulnerability of young animals like puppies, noting the need for careful monitoring to maintain their well-being amidst the excitement of the event.

Puppies, known for their playful and sometimes mischievous nature, require considerable care and training. Tubman advises potential adopters to understand fully what is involved in raising a puppy. “Healthy and happy puppies will do puppy things, like dig up lawns, chew up shoes and poop where they’re not supposed to, until they learn the preferred behaviours,” he said. He further stressed the importance of kind, effective, force-free training to ensure puppies grow into well-mannered and enjoyable family members.

In an effort to support new owners, RSPCA SA is offering a reduced fee on one of its puppy training classes. Adopters also have the opportunity to purchase a canine care pack, valued at $140, for a reduced price of $49.95.

The adoption fee includes a range of veterinary services. All puppies are desexed, vaccinated, treated for parasites, microchipped, and have undergone both health and behavioural assessments.

Those interested in adopting can view available puppies online.

They are encouraged to visit the website multiple times over the coming week as new puppies will continuously be added to the platform.
