Qantas frequent flyers are about to enjoy their biggest weekend yet, with the launch of Qantas’ largest-ever Points Planes redemption. 225,000 reward seats are now up for grabs to travel to coastal destinations across Australia.
What’s a Points Plane, you ask? It’s a plane operated by Qantas or Jetstar where every available seat is bookable with points. Points Planes are exclusively reserved for Qantas Frequent Flyers.
Why is it so cool? Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth revealed that frequent flyers don’t always have the opportunity to use their points, as Points planes are hugely in demand and sell out quickly. This record release of Points Planes will give a huge amount of people the opportunity to utilise their points and dash away this summer.
Moreover, despite high demand for flights and higher fuel prices, the points required to book these seats haven’t increased in years, so point-booked flights are pretty reasonable. Ms Wirth says that seats can be booked for as little as 8,000 points one-way, while a family of four can travel from Sydney to the Gold coast return for under 65,000 points.
Qantas’ largest-ever Points Planes redemption is a 72-hour promotion, commencing from 11am AEST Tuesday 29 November 2022. Travel dates span across six weeks (9-22 January and all of February 2023) and the flights stretch across 21 routes. Routes include:
- Melbourne to Hamilton Island, Merimbula, Townsville, Devonport, Burnie and the Gold Coast
- Sydney to Byron Bay, Hamilton Island, Merimbula, Townsville and the Gold Coast
- Brisbane to the Whitsunday Coast, Hamilton Island and Townsville
- Adelaide to Townsville, Kangaroo Island, Mount Gambier, Whyalla, Port Lincoln and the Gold Coast
- Perth to Broome
All seats in Economy and Business on the designated Points Planes can be booked as Classic Reward seats until 11am AEST Friday 2 December 2022. Seats on these flights can also be purchased with cash.
Frequent flyers earned more than 118 billion Qantas Points last year, with more than two-thirds of those points earned via credit cards, shopping, and other on-the-ground partners.
Beyond this 72-hour Points Planes promotion, the airline said that travellers wanting to book a Qantas holiday or a Qantas Hotel around the coast can now use 30 to 45 per cent fewer points. Moreover, there are more than five million reward seats available for frequent flyers over the next year across Qantas and Jetstar domestic and international flights.
