The quarantine requirements for vaccinated close contacts of individuals with the suspected Omicron variant have been reduced.
“SA Health has undertaken ongoing risk assessments over the weekend of a number of exposure sites linked to cases positive for the Omicron variant,” said Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier.
On the basis of this the following exposure locations have been downgraded as follows and those individuals impacted are in the process of being contacted.
- Kilburn – Supercheap Auto on Wednesday, 8 December 2021 12.00pm – 1.45pm
Downgraded to low risk casual contact
- Plympton – Chicken Shack Seafood and Grill on Tuesday 7 December 2021 2.00pm – 3.00pm
Downgraded to low risk casual contact
- Glengowrie – Olivers Pets and Plans on Tuesday 7 December 2021 8.30am – 5.30pm
Close contact status remains for staff but patrons of this site have been downgraded to casual contact (requiring three tests but only quarantining until the first test is negative).
“In addition, and following discussion of Chief Health Officers at today’s AHPPC meeting, South Australia will be adjusting quarantine requirements for contacts of Omicron, or suspected Omicron, cases,” said Spurrier.
This adjustment will reduce the quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated close contacts back to seven days, while unvaccinated close contacts of Omicron cases will still need to complete 14 days of quarantine.
“This change will align with our response to Delta cases in South Australia and will be more practical to implement given that at some point it will not be possible to differentiate between these strains as the case numbers increase,” said Spurrier.
Vaccinated close contacts are still required to have a COVID test on day 13 and not visit high-risk settings or COVID management plan events. They must also wear a mask around other people and avoid vulnerable individuals.
“We continue to review the ongoing situation and latest information available and let the community know of all updates in our response to stopping the spread of COVID-19,” said Spurrier.
