The RAA has officially broadened its Approved Repairer network to include electric vehicle (EV) and Hybrid servicing options. This initiative comes as the organisation notes a significant uptick in members switching to EVs. Fleurieu Automotive at Victor Harbor has distinguished itself as the first establishment to join this innovative segment within the network.
RAA’s network, recognised for its rigorous standards including quality workmanship, fair pricing, and adherence to their Approved Repairer Code of Practice, now encompasses servicing for the increasingly popular EVs and hybrids. Speaking to the significance of this expansion, RAA Manager for Approved Repairers & Future Technology, Simon Halford, elaborated on the progressive enhancement of EV servicing capabilities across the network.
“Our insight from recent surveys indicates that 43% of RAA members are considering an EV for their next vehicle purchase,” Mr Halford revealed. He also noted the maintenance needs associated with EVs, which, despite possessing fewer mechanical components compared to traditional vehicles, require regular servicing. This encompasses elements like brakes, suspension systems, and various battery types.
RAA is proactively facilitating their repairers’ transition into servicing high-voltage EV batteries, which may be a newer domain for some. “It’s about evolving with a shift towards electric power as a vital energy source,” added Halford.
Fleurieu Automotive has been an RAA-approved repairer since 2012. Their journey towards embracing electric vehicle technology, paired with their established service excellence, made them a natural choice for this key role. Andrew Moules, from Fleurieu Automotive, shared his views on joining the EV and Hybrid Approved Repairer category. “To us, it feels like stepping into the future, as technology continuously evolves. Being associated with RAA equips us with the necessary network to effectively serve our customers,” he stated.
The move to include EV and Hybrid servicing aligns with RAA’s broader efforts to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles. This includes initiatives like offering competitive EV car insurance and a mobile emergency EV charging service launched earlier this year. RAA is also nearing the completion of its “RAA Charge” project, which aims to set up over 140 charging stations across South Australia, creating a comprehensive border-to-border EV charging network.
By integrating Hybrid and EV servicing into their Approved Repairer network, RAA not only elevates the standard for vehicle maintenance but also actively supports the transition towards sustainable automotive technologies. Access to RAA’s specialised tools, such as three-phase electric motor testers and high voltage multi-meters, ensures repairers are well-equipped while presumably alleviating some of the initial financial burdens of servicing modern vehicles.
As the prevalence of EVs increases, with more than 10,000 currently registered in South Australia and projections suggesting numbers could rise to 125,000 by 2030, the expansion of proficient servicing options is timely. This forward-looking initiative from RAA promises to enhance member experiences and drive the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicle technologies throughout the state.
