In a move designed to support members, their communities, and the causes they’re passionate about, RAA is offering $100,000 worth of grants to South Australian not-for-profits and community organisations through its Grassroots Giving Program.

Not-for-profits and community organisations can now apply for grants of up to $5000 to assist with projects that support and endorse helping disadvantaged and/or vulnerable South Australians, supporting youth development, supporting and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and reconciliation activities, reducing inequalities in the community, community safety, innovation, and environmental sustainability.

Emily Perry, RAA General Manager of Community and Corporate Affairs, said “At RAA we’re all about being better for members and better for our community, and our Grassroots Giving grants are one way we support local groups and organisations across the state.

“We know these organisations don’t always have surplus funds to initiate programs to help those in our community who need it most.”

Since RAA launched Grassroots Giving in 2019, the program has contributed over $330,000 in grants to more than 90 South Australian organisations working hard for their communities.

“As SA’s largest member-based organisation, we’re honoured to step in and help get great initiatives off the ground, and we encourage any group with a relevant project to apply,” said Perry.

In 2024, a local organisation called Challenges Into Opportunities received support for their “Main Event” initiative, which improves the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth through mentorship, cultural workshops and physical activity.

Challenges Into Opportunities Director Mariah Torres said the RAA Grassroots Giving grant helped create positive outcomes in the “Main Event” program.

“Thanks to RAA’s Grassroots Giving grant, our students were able to come in and complete boxing sessions with us each week for an entire school term,” said Ms Torres.

“These sessions lasted an hour, and we saw a vast behavioural improvement, with the boxing classes helping assist with emotional regulation and self-discipline.

“It was super successful, with our volunteers were able to provide mentoring, with the grant also covering facility use of the gym.”

The first round is now open for applications until Monday, April 7th, and recipients will be notified by the 2nd of May. There will also be a second round of applications later in the year.
