Radicool Rymill is bringing cocktails and crocodiles to the CBD

This weekend, the iconic Colada Kiosk in Rymill Park has teamed up with Radicool Reptiles to bring us the family-friendly afternoon we didn’t know we needed

Summer has arrived in SA, and all this warm weather has us craving cocktails and iced lattés at a leafy lake-side café while basking in the January sun. But what about enjoying your fruity mix or a strong brew in the presence of a crocodile?

This weekend, the iconic Colada Kiosk in Rymill Park has teamed up with Radicool Reptiles to bring us the family-friendly afternoon we didn’t know we needed – a jam-packed day of coffees, cocktails and crepes alongside some super cool reptiles!

Running across both Saturday 22 and Sunday 23, this scaly collaboration is coming to the city. Radicool Rymill is letting Adelaidians meet an array of reptiles while supporting the events and hospitality industry.

From midday to 1pm, Radicool Reptile owner Nadia Couzner and her crew will be taking young ones on an educational reptilian adventure, where they can feed and pet lizards, meet crocodiles and learn about the freshwater turtles found in SA.

The unique hands-on experience will display between 15-20 reptiles, with the kids able to meet and learn about the animals and why it is important to protect their lives and habitat.

“We have a chat about feeling safe and that the animals are a part of my family,” says Nadia.

“They’re different from what you’d experience in the wild.

“We keep a fun element, and they learn as they go, so it’s a hands-on learning experience…we encourage children to learn in their own way.

“We are very inclusive, no matter what age, there’s something for little tuckers to learn as much as the teenagers.”

As the school term looms closer, what better way to enjoy the last moments of the summer holidays than getting out and up close with lizards, turtles and two crocodiles – Crikey and Cuddly.

There will also be an initiative running throughout the day to help support the event and hospitality hit hard by the current restrictions.

Cuddle for a Cause will let event-goers give an affectionate squeeze with Nadia’s beautiful python and have a cocktail or a coffee, with the funds associated directly helping the cost of Radicool Reptiles and her reptile rescue and rehabilitation program.

But no need to worry if our scaly friends spike your adrenalin – there’s plenty of other activities to enjoy throughout the day.

Peruse the vintage markets setting up shop on both dates and find the perfect second-hand gem to slot into your closet, handpicked by Nadia herself and fellow vintage lover and Colada Kiosk owner, Tess.

The talented musician and one-man-band Craig Atkins will be playing throughout the day, with several acoustic live sets and his didgeridoo. Treat yourself to a delicious crepe from the culinary gurus at Colada Kiosk, who will also be serving up mouth-watering treats to the weekend crowds.

So whether your little one is an aspiring Steve Irwin or it’s time to treat yourself to a tasty cocktail or two, there’s something for everyone at Radicool Rymill.

“We get kids learning about their environment and animals that they share the planet with – we don’t want to lose that,” says Nadia.

Radicool Rymill is running this weekend on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 at Rymill Park
