The Botanic Gardens are excited to share the news that one of its special, stinky, endangered Corpse Flower plants is now in bloom.
The Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanum) is known for its eye-catching inflorescence and highly pungent, rotting flesh-like odour which it uses to attract insects for pollination.

This nine-year-old plant, which was propagated using leaf cuttings from an already established adult Titan Arum plant, will flower for the first time in its life cycle and represents the first successfully flowering plant cultivated from leaf cuttings in our collection.
While the flower is expected to be smaller than some of our previous blooms, it still measures in at over 1.5-metres tall, and the aroma will be equally as strong.
This bloom event is extremely limited, and the first 24 hours is when the smell is at its strongest. The flower will wilt after approximately 48 hours, so be sure to get in quick!
Due to the interest in this flower’s bloom, there may be long queues to view the plant. The Botanic Gardens advise visitors to bring sunscreen, a hat and a water bottle in the event of extreme heat.
