Raytheon Australia’s Centre for Joint Integration – their first production facility in the nation – is creating hundreds of new jobs for South Australians, and massively boosting the defence capability at Mawson Lakes Technology precinct.

The project has created 200 construction jobs since the sod was turned in March 2019, and a further 300 ongoing jobs across the defence industry will be created once the facility is complete.

From this facility, the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) will be integrated to provide deployed ADF personnel with protection from a range of threats including manned aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles.

Premier Steven Marshall said the facility will bolster Mawson Lakes Technology Park, and further cement South Australia’s reputation as the defence capital of the nation.

“This incredible facility, which represents a $50 million investment in our state’s defence industry, will be Raytheon’s first production facility in the nation,” said the Premier.

“Having a facility of this level in our state puts us on the map as a world-leader in the delivery of high-level defence projects, which creates jobs and provides a massive boost to our economy.

“We need to seize every opportunity to grow our economy – and the defence industry presents itself as one of the key sectors for us to do so – with the $90 billion defence investment from the Commonwealth presenting an unprecedented pipeline of work for decades to come.

“Raytheon will join a suite of other global defence giants here at Mawson Lakes Technology Park, including the likes of Lockheed Martin and SAAB Systems.

“We are facing headwinds with the current global COVID-19 pandemic, but these developments will help our state come out the other side even stronger than before.

The Managing Director of Raytheon Australia, Michael Ward, indicated the significance of the company’s new building.

“The Centre for Joint Integration will become the principal production facility for Raytheon in Australia and one of the company’s most significant centres for integrated air and missile defence outside the United States.”

“Raytheon’s investment here represents a $50 million commitment to South Australia’s defence industry.
