At the helm of the family-run small goods store, nestled in Barossa’s Nuriootpa, are owners Tash and Scott Goldsmith who have created a haven of high-quality products for over 41 years.

If you’re in need of a recipe to shake up your winter warmer meals for the last of the colder months, the talented team at Steiny’s have created a hearty Pumpkin Soup that uses their mouth-watering Redgum smoked bacon as the star ingredient.

Smoked for three days, the 100% Australian bacon’s distinctive smokey taste is created by soaking the meat in a salty brine for 7 days, then smoked using real smoke from burning Redgum fires in the Steiny’s smokehouse, which are doused with Redgum sawdust.

To make this dreamy dish, you’ll need:

1 x Pumpkin (1kg approx)

2 x onions

1 litre of chicken stock

250g Steiny’s Redgum Smoked Bacon

1 x carrot

Steiny’s Redgum Smoked Salt

Method:

1. Peel and chop the pumpkin, onions and carrots into small pieces.

2. Combine the chopped ingredients and chicken stock into a large pot.

3. Cover and cook on high heat for approximately 15 minutes.

4. Mix with a stick blender until smooth.

5. When serving, til in a little cream and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Steiny’s Redgum bacon can be purchased directly from Steiny’s store for $9 (250g) or $16 for 500g. The bacon can also be found in select stores across Adelaide, you can find out which stores stock Steiny’s speciality products here.
