One of Adelaide’s hottest new night spots – Onyx Dessert Lounge & Bar (163 O’Connell Street, North Adelaide) is turning up the heat on celebrating the love in your relationship this Valentine’s Day.
Onyx will not only be offering a scrumptious five course degustation menu this Valentine’s Day to romance couples, they will also offer couples the chance to reconnect and learn new things about each other via the placement of relationship strengthening talking cards on each table, by romance and dinner conversation guru, Kate Heylen from Little Black Table.
Kate says, “According to the latest information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, communication difficulties are one of the leading causes of relationship breakdown in Australia – second only to financial stress – and it is often because people simply don’t make time to really talk with each other. Couples with children often find that when they make the time to be with each other they often end up talking about the children’s needs, rather than relaxing and enjoying each others company. That’s why I developed Little Black Table.
The idea is to create a beautiful environment at Onyx, where couples can be inspired to talk and discover each other the way they did when they first fell in love. Each table will contain everything you need for an intimate, romantic and memorable night with your partner. Tables will be set with three different themes; Choose from, Exotic, Romantic or Glamorous.. Tables will ooze romance as they will be complete with fresh flowers, candles and talking cards with suggested dinner conversation questions to ask each other! The questions are nothing to be frightened of they are designed to be light and fun.”
Onyx’s own brainchild’s; Anup Raghavan and Rajiv Mittal both identified that it’s easy for life to get away from as you as you get older and is particularly the case after you start a family and juggling work and family demands. Thus when it came to planning Onyx’s Valentine’s Day offering, they wanted to create space for couples to reconnect and find the love in their relationships!
Anup said “We are thrilled we have found an expert like Kate to help use create the perfect space at Onyx for couples to reconnect. We are viewing this event as a trial run, we expect it will be a huge success, as we are already receiving great feedback from couples saying what a good idea! Onyx may look at including Kate’s relationship talking cards as a regular offering.”

a specially designed Onyx Valentine’s Cocktail
First course:
Beetroot Salad, beetroot sorbet, apple balsamic walnuts, toasted buck wheat, chevre mousse, orange gel.
Second course:
Quail, peach and verjuice, roasted salted almonds, star anise jus, crispy tarragon.
Third course:
Pan fried Port Lincoln kingfish, green beans , lemon pomme fondant, foie gras sauce, brioche crumb.
Fourth course:
Epoisse cheese, toasted brioche, citrus poached pears, black pepper pear crisps, pear and Port jelly.
Fifth course:
The grand finale – Limited edition Onyx dessert made with love and designed to make two hearts become one!
