A record number of nominations have been received for the 2010 South Australian Tourism Awards for the second year in a row.

Tourism businesses across South Australia will compete in 27 categories for the honour of being heralded as one of South Australia’s very best tourism experiences.

South Australian Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Ward Tilbrook says with a new streamlined online submission process, record nominations have been received for the second year in a row, jumping 8% this year to a total of 184.

“It is encouraging to see so many tourism businesses reviewing their goals and achievements and showcasing their success, a South Australian Tourism Award win or medal is a powerful addition to a business’ marketing message – it is a compelling endorsement of the business in the eyes of the consumer.” Mr Tilbrook says.

At a national and international level, if South Australia is going to increase its share of the tourism pie in an increasingly competitive national tourism marketplace, we have to continue to build our reputation for high quality tourism experiences.

“These Awards are the tourism industry’s premier accolade. It is a whole of business award, with comprehensive criteria, not just a consumer choice ballot, our awards are designed so entrants can detail all aspects of their business.

“I wish all nominees the best of luck with their submissions.”

The Awards Presentation Ceremony and Gala Dinner will be held on Thursday 18 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The winner in each category will then go on to represent South Australia at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in March next year.

The South Australian Tourism Awards are the pinnacle of excellence within the tourism industry, reward innovation and foster best business practices by set benchmarks for all tourism operators to aspire to.
