When our car pulled up outside the Lindsay Wine Estate cellar door in the Barossa Valley, we hesitated before walking in, not sure if there was a private party going on. Nirvana was blaring from the outdoor speakers, and people were lounging around on deck chairs in the sunshine drinking wine.
It wasn’t my 18th birthday party all over again though, it was just another day for this unique destination, as guests were treated to one of their ever-expanding collection of vinyl records.
As it turns out, when mates Will Bolton and Matt Dunning decided to build a cellar door, they wanted to combine traditional and modern elements in a welcoming environment for wine (& music) lovers.
The Lindsay Wine Estate cellar door was built around a 1973 Sanyo Record Player, and the rest is history.
Four giant drawers sit behind the counter, below the wine on display, and they house the 4000-strong record collection that the cellar door is now known for.
Team members from Lindsay Wine Estate all get to choose a new record each month, and the diverse range of albums are a testament to their varied tastes!
From Neil Diamond to Amy Winehouse, The Beatles to Jurassic 5, Billie Holiday, Chemical Brothers and everything in between, it’s a music collection for the ages.
There’s also plenty of art on display as well, and great platters on offer, so the cellar door is truly a feast for the senses.
What’s a cellar door without great wine though? Don’t worry, they’ve got that covered too, with 19 different varietals on offer, so you can taste, relax, explore and enjoy the journey.
To top things off, Lindsay Wine Estate is also home to two kelpies, so you’re invited to bring your fur baby along (provided they get along well with others).
You’ll find Lindsay Wine Estate at 15 Vine Vale Road, Tanunda, Barossa Valley. More info at www.lindsaywineestate.com.au
