Acclaimed Thai chef Nu Suandokmai has been headhunted by the new owners of the Rob Roy Hotel to take over the hotel’s kitchens in a new era for South Australia’s second oldest licensed pub.
The hotel will reopen TODAY with a new menu and new look that promises to lift its dining options to new heights.

“Whilst being famous for its whisky bar, great location, street dining and overall hospitality for many years, the Rob Roy’s food options have remained very much mainstream standard pub food,” said Hotel Manager, Donovan Johns.
“The new owners are determined to make the Rob Roy much more of a food destination and, while all the usual pub food classics will be retained, we now have the exciting addition of some of Adelaide’s finest Thai food cooked by the hugely respected and popular chef Nu Suandokmai.”

For the past four years Nu has helmed the kitchen at Lantern by Nu, building a reputation for some of Adelaide’s most authentic and flavourful Thai cooking. In a broad-ranging career he has cooked modern Australian food at Bathers Pavilion in Sydney, where he also ran his own Thai restaurant.
Nu has also been the Executive Chef for a Thai restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Bali, and even ran the kitchen at French restaurant Cliché in North Adelaide.

“Nu’s vast experience means we are looking forward a few surprises in the Rob Roy kitchen,” Donovan said, “but the real focus will be on presenting some of Adelaide’s finest Thai cooking at pub prices in a highly congenial and informal pub setting, making it accessible for everything from business lunches, to romantic dinners and family outings.”
The Rob Roy Hotel, named after the famous Scottish outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor, was first licensed in 1840, making it second only to the Queen’s Head in North Adelaide as the longest continuously operating hotel in Adelaide. It underwent a major renovation in 2007 under the previous owners, but much of its original classic charm and layout has been preserved, making it a rarity amongst city hotels.

Rob Roy Hotel is located at 106 Halifax St, Adelaide SA 5000.
