Jamie Musgrave has been appointed as the new Executive Chef of Restaurant Botanic, taking over from one of South Australia’s top chefs, Justin James, who will step down at the end of June.
Musgrave has worked alongside Chef James since 2021, playing an integral role in the venue’s success over the past three years. His promotion brings a new era of creativity and energy to Restaurant Botanic, promising to uphold its reputation as one of the country’s top dining destinations.
“I am excited about championing pristine produce and small batch artisans while showcasing some rare ingredients diners may not have seen before,” Jamie Musgrave says.
Born in the scenic town of Dunsborough in Western Australia, part of Margaret River’s wine region, Jamie Musgrave began his culinary journey at 15 years old. His passion to explore WA’s food scene drove him to leave school to pursue a cooking apprenticeship.
Jamie went on to work at 2-hat restaurant Knee Deep in WA’s southwest, then briefly at Sydney’s Rockpool Bar and Grill. He joined Fervor from 2015 to 2017, exploring native Australian ingredients and foraging with Aboriginal elders across stunning landscapes.
Returning to WA, Jamie refined his skills at Vasse Felix before moving to Hong Kong’s One Star House Party. In 2021, Jamie relocated to Adelaide, jumping at the opportunity to work alongside Chef Justin James at Restaurant Botanic, marking a new chapter in his career.
Under Jamie Musgrave’s leadership, Restaurant Botanic looks forward to a new era of culinary excellence, which will have a key focus on showcasing local producers, while still showcasing the gardens which surround it.
Justin James leaves behind a legacy of innovative cuisine that has defined Restaurant Botanic as one of the Australia’s top dining destinations. His future plans hint at new ventures of his own.
