Adelaide’s most glamorous restaurant has been re-born, with Restaurant Botanic finally opening its doors to the public last week.

Nestled amongst the leafy green landscape of the famous Adelaide Botanic Gardens, the award-winning degustation restaurant has undergone renovations since May.

The menu, created by the acclaimed Head Chef Justin James, who served five and a half years as Executive Chef at one of Melbourne’s top restaurants, Vue de Monde, strives to use every ingredient featured in the fine-dining creations to perfection. Guests wanting to experience the luxury of the newly renovated restaurant can choose between two degustation menus, The Short Path and The Long Trail, with an option for the mouth-watering cuisine to be perfectly paired with South Australian wine from the new wine cellar.

Operating under its new moniker Restaurant Botanic (formerly Botanic Gardens Restaurant) the transformation of the iconic fine-dining destination has given the historical venue a new breath of life.

The exciting renovations designed by award-winning architect firm Williams Burton Leopardi feature open plan kitchen, with twelve seats surrounding the bustling kitchen environment, allowing guests to experience first-hand the culinary action.

The layout of the popular restaurant has also been re-designed, paying homage to the original alignment of the heritage building.

Restaurant Botanic has invested in fermentation, hosting the highly-anticipated sold-out Botanica Lumina x Restaurant Botanic fermentation dinner Thursday. Over 1500 kilos of produce has been sourced directly from the Botanic gardens and local SA growers, fermented and preserved for use all year-round.

Championing the restaurants lush 51-hectare botanical gardens, the restaurant has chosen an earthy colour palette, featuring a stunning vine-covered chandelier in the centre of the iconic rotunda.

The standout feature is the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant, which gives guests a chance to see how the magic is made. As the restaurant is in a heritage building, they decided to keep a lot of the classic touches as a nod to its history.

“For our guests this will be more than a table in a restaurant. A visit to Botanic Gardens Restaurant will be a culinary and sensory escape, where they can forget all of life’s pressures, embracing our wondrous botanical setting whilst enjoying exceptional diversity of food & beverages, warm ambience, and engaging service,” said James when previously discussing the renovations with Glam Adelaide.
