The Gov – Adelaide 4/3/2016

Amidst the fumes of the Clipsal 500, a packed out Governor Hindmarsh Hotel played host to the formidable masters of fusion Metal, 12 Foot Ninja. Punters desperate for some detuned guitars and Mosh Pit antics made a B-line to the Gov for a taste of brutality at its best!

Adelaide’s own Triple J unearthed feature artists Colibrium took to the very cramped stage to warm things up, working their way around the Ninjas setup to punch out some technical, melodic Metal with precision and passion. Close your eyes and you could mistake Chris Guards’ vocals for Chris Cornell at times. Talented and clean- it was a great set for the boys.

There were plenty of JAPAM T-Shirts in the crowd and for good reason. Again, working around the Ninja Props, JAPAM delivered an extremely tight set, as lead singer Ryan Lucivero’s model good looks melted the ladies hearts. Great use of backup vocals added harmony to the set, and the energy of bassist Ben Whitehorn had the pit bouncing at an early stage.

But the majority were there to see the NINJAS, and boy did they put on a masterful display of metal martial arts! They took to the stage in their Ninja attire minus the masks and delivered with precision. Brandishing tracks from their new ARIA Nominated album Outliner, they also mixed things up with their classics. The fans were in a frenzy from start, with Steve MacKay’s own brand Shuriken Guitars grinding out the unique sound the Ninjas are famous for. The place erupted as Collateral started and continued to do so throughout the night. Vocalist Nick Etic paid tribute the numerous Kids and Parents at the show and praised the Adelaide crowd for its energy, saying we should teach the rest of Australia how to rock! They finished the show with 1 hand killing, and I have never seen a more satisfied or maybe tired crowd, because it was an absolute mosh fest from the start.
