2013 Australian Cabaret Workshop performancePresented by Matthew Carey and Catherine Campbell
Reviewed Sunday 6th January 2013

This performance was the showcase for the participants in a three day intensive Australian Cabaret Workshop that had been run by Matthew Carey and Catherine Campbell. The participants ranged from experienced cabaret performers, honing their skills, to enthusiastic beginners, learning vast amounts in a short time under the guidance and coaching of the two highly knowledgeable and experienced tutors.

The evening saw the group taking turns on stage, each presenting two contrasting, or complementary songs, with introductions. Some performances were humorous, some were poignant, and some were very personal. It was hard to believe, though, that this was all the result of the work of only a couple of days. The performances were well thought out and very polished, looking more like the result of a lengthy rehearsal time.

If you missed this excellent performance then you should book early for the showcase performance at the culmination of the week long Australian Cabaret Summer School, which is now in its third year. That school is running at the moment and the performance will be at 7:30pm on Saturday 12th January, once again at Star Theatres, in cabaret style in the main theatre. There are more participants in this performance then the workshop performance, giving a full evening of great entertainment. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and assorted snacks, can be purchased at the bar, with wine sold by the glass or the bottle, and the theatre’s owner, Malcolm Harslett, suggests that you might even like take a basket supper. Doors open at 7pm.

Bookings for this event are via the web site here.
