On Monday July 1st 2013, P!nk kicked off the South Australian leg of her Truth About Love Australian Tour.
Bursting through the bottom of the stage amid fireworks and explosions, P!nk got the party started with her song “Raise Your Glass”. Fans were sent into a craze, as P!nk was attached to a trapeze performing amazing acrobatics throughout the song. The mood was now set for the night, and that mood was – electric!
Before her dramatic entrance however, The Kin, a New York based trio, warmed up the crowd. Comprising Adelaide brothers, Isaac and Thorald Koren on lead vocals and Shakerleg on drums and bare hand percussion, they captured the crowd with their gritty pop sound and had P!nk fans singing along and arms waving in the air.
Their rendition of “Mary” was dedicated to P!nk and all mothers, which impressed all. The unexpected didgeridoo solo by Isaac wowed the crowd and The Kin’s newest song “Get On It”, to be released locally this week, sealed the deal that P!nk’s Adelaide fans, are now safe to say, fans of The Kin as well!
No matter how awesome the opening act was though, there was only one person the sold out arena was waiting for and from the grand entrance to the finale, she didn’t disappoint.
Performing a perfect range of songs from previous albums such as “Just Like A Pill” and “U + Ur Hand”, as well as newer songs from her current, “The Truth About Love”, P!nk also mixed the night up with a stunning versions of other people’s songs including “Wicked Games” by Chris Isaac.
Fans were spoilt with not only heart pumping tunes and inspiring melodies, but also our very own acrobatic Cirque Du Soilel – P!nk style! One of my favourite emotional performances was her trapeze solo for “Try”.
P!nk showed her genuine appreciation of the fans by often reaching to the crowd and accepting gifts, shaking hands, signing arms and even happily accepting a Sara Lee Strawberry Cheesecake.
The crowd was asked to do their worst dance moves with her and her dancers during “Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely)” which had the fans busting the best of their worst moves, with the biggest smiles on their faces!
P!nk and her seven dancers were cheeky, sexy and fun. The costumes guided the fans through the “The Truth About Love” journey. The leotards had just enough sparkle, and the fishnets were just the right amount of sexy, to get the crowd screaming. Slowing the night down at times performing in bare feet and flowing dresses during melodies set the mood to feel the love and inspiration. Her adorable daughter Willow made an appearance which melted the fans hearts even more.
P!nk’s vocals were not compromised by her dancing and acrobatics throughout each performance. Her voice, as always, was strong and beautiful. She gave a raw and touching performance of her hit “Just Give Me A Reason” with Nate Ruess on screen.
Winding the night down with an intimate acoustic session with her lead guitarist with three songs, including “Time After Time” by Cindy Lauper, P!nk reminded us why Australia has so much love for her, the humble talented performer that she truly is.
Taking us back to her roots, P!nk shared a short video of snap shots from her childhood through to her burst to fame, then entering into a medley of “Most Girls, There You Go, You Make Me Sick” from her debut album “Can’t Take Me Home”. Being one of my favourite albums, I was ecstatic that she had taken the night back to her contemporary R&B sound.
Ending the night being attached to a harness soaring through the air, singing “So What”, P!nk was able to get closer to her Adelaide fans at nearly every corner of the arena. Being a long time fan attending my first P!nk concert, I can truly understand how this amazing woman can sell out a 46 show Tour. This may be my first P!nk concert, but it surely will not be my last.
