Dedicated local riders have come together to raise over $305,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) South Australia through the Ride For Sick Kids fundraising event.
From Sunday 6 March to Saturday 12 March, a team of 14 riders made their way from Melbourne to Adelaide, cycling 1,000 kms to help raise vital funds for seriously ill and injured children and their families.
Julie Black, Executive Officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities South Australia said, “We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by the community for this year’s Ride for Sick Kids event.
“The funds raised will go towards supporting RMHC programs across South Australia, ensuring we can continue to provide a home away from home for families with seriously ill or injured children across the region.
“Ride for Sick Kids is such an important part of our annual fundraising efforts and we can’t thank the community enough for their ongoing support.”
Now in its 10th year, Ride for Sick Kids has raised more than $2.2 million for RMHC in South Australia, with riders clocking over 180,000 km on their bikes and raising enough funds for 13,750 nights of accommodation for children and their families.
Ronald McDonald Charities is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill or injured children.
RMHC SA was originally based within the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in 1991. Following a major refurbishment, Ronald McDonald House became a stand alone House in 2000 to assist families who live far away and require accommodation to be close to their child whilst receiving treatment at the hospital.
Since then, the House has expanded its accommodation facilities to provide over 250 families a year, a ‘home away from home’ during challenging times. Families from remote and regional areas across Australia stay at RMHC SA free of charge, which provides them a warm, safe and secure place to stay.
Through the accommodation and support services, RMHC SA strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s injury or illness.
