This brand new experience opens up a unique lane of meditation as you cruise along the river guided by accredited meditation teacher, Cherie Foran.

Cherie offers meditation sessions held on small, umbrellaed boats as they cruise the serene Port River. Sessions are offered for groups of two, three, four, or for individuals.

Portabello restaurant on the Port River, opened up their delightful donut-shaped boats for hire in 2018 and now they’re partnering with River Zen to deliver a tranquil river-relaxation experience.

Cherie hires out the Portabello River Cruiser boats to deliver personalised meditation sessions. She says the prime-time is early-morning, but any time is a perfect time for a meditation session!

Cherie says, “We go up and down the river, and while your floating it’s naturally calming. The little boats are really cute, and they cruise along slowly and steadily.”

“Your breathing naturally regulates straight away,” Cherie says. She can’t recommend it enough for anyone who wants to unwind and relax.

Cherie explains the sessions, saying, “I take people for an introductory talk to make sure everyone’s comfortable, then we meditate and explore the river before returning back.”

River Zen is a new venture Cherie has started in collaboration with Portabello Restaurant. Cherie says it’s the perfect spot and it allows participants to dine in for a lovely breakfast, lunch or dinner, then take a meditative tour of the river.

“It has that unique factor!” Cherie says. Every time she’s spoken to someone about the idea, or heard a response, it’s a curious reaction full of excitement.

Cherie happened to see some of the boats being taken out by the restaurant and said it was just one of those conversations of serendipity. Cherie said, “I just asked him what they did with the boats because I was relatively new to the area. They said, ‘oh it’s really relaxing when your out on the river, it’s like meditating.’ I said, “I do meditation teaching!” and it all seemed to happen organically from there.”

Having completed 200-hour meditation training, Cherie has held a whole host of meditation sessions, and is ultra passionate about the practice.

Cherie would love to expand and do sessions beyond the Port, but says it has been the perfect starting point for the business.
