Robbie Williams ready to entertain you at this year’s AFL Grand Final

Robbie Williams will take over the MCG on that one day in September after spending most of the year in Melbourne filming his biopic.

It’s one of the biggest days on the Australian sporting calendar and now the AFL Grand Final has locked in one of the biggest stars to rock the MCG.

Legendary British icon, Robbie Williams, has been confirmed to headline this years sporting spectacular after reportedly accepting a multi-million dollar deal to perform three songs. The star will be accompanied by local musicians he will personally handpick to bring a show that will attract attention from everyone, footy fans or otherwise.

This year’s Grand Final will return to its original home of Melbourne’s MCG for the first time since 2019 and is confirmed to be a daytime match, despite pressure from some officials to be continued as a twilight match.

In addition to landing one of the biggest names in music, the AFL is also looking to freshen up the annual Grand Final Parade and events leading up to the final siren as a way to encourage spectator engagements and breathe new life into the game and its celebrations.

Robbie Williams was last seen in Adelaide in 2018 when he performed on the final day of the Clipsal 500 to a sellout crowd.

An open lover of Australia, the superstar singer has spent a lot of time in Australia this year for the filming his biopic, Better Man, which follows his journey into stardom from boyband to superstar. Filming for the movie kicked off last month with the film being labelled a ‘musical fantasy’.

Robbie played two stadium shows during his time in Melbourne back in April and while there is no talks just yet of him crossing the border over to our side of town, we’ll be keeping a close ear to the ground, praying to the rock gods and welcoming him with open arms if he does.

The AFL Grand Final is on Saturday 24th September 2022. For more information, visit the AFL website.
