Teddy Swims and Rob Thomas spotted at tiny Adelaide dive bar ahead of SA shows

“It’s like that thing, where you and your son and friends go into a bar in Adelaide and wind up hanging with @teddyswims #tourlife

Adelaide’s Cry Baby bar has again proven itself a magnet for visiting stars, with global music icons Teddy Swims and Rob Thomas dropping in over the weekend before their headline shows at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Both artists are currently touring Australia on separate national runs, each performing in different spaces at the AEC tonight — Swims in the Arena and Thomas in the Theatre. Despite running independent tours, the pair’s paths crossed in classic Adelaide fashion, sharing a relaxed evening at the city’s favourite dive bar.

Rob Thomas posted a photo on Facebook capturing the moment, captioned: “It’s like that thing, where you and your son and friends go into a bar in Adelaide and wind up hanging with @teddyswims #tourlife — in Adelaide.” The image has quickly made the rounds among fans, with locals delighted to see both stars embracing Adelaide’s nightlife scene.

Cry Baby has long been a go-to for visiting celebrities, with previous sightings including Hollywood actor Zac Efron and members of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age, and Arctic Monkeys. The bar’s neon-lit, rock-and-roll vibe continues to attract big names who are chasing an authentic slice of Adelaide’s late-night energy.

For Teddy Swims, the Adelaide stop is part of his “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2)” world tour — his biggest yet. The Grammy-nominated artist has rapidly risen to fame, amassing over 8.7 billion streams globally with hits like Lose Control and The Door. His latest record debuted at number one in Australia and top five across several international charts, cementing his place as one of the most distinctive new voices in soul and pop.

Swims’ live shows have been met with rave reviews, backed by his band Freak Freely, who help deliver his signature mix of raw emotion and powerhouse vocals. His Australian tour has sold out multiple arenas, following huge success in the UK and Europe earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Rob Thomas — the Matchbox Twenty frontman turned solo star — is back in Australia for his “All Night Days” tour, celebrating the release of his sixth solo album and the 20-year anniversary of his triple-platinum debut …Something to Be. The run marks his first solo Australian tour since 2019, and he’s joined by an impressive lineup of local favourites including Boy & Bear, Eskimo Joe, Little Quirks, and Sarah Berki.

Thomas’s Australian shows promise a mix of new material and fan-favourite classics such as Lonely No MoreHer Diamonds, and Street Corner Symphony. He’s also expressed his affection for local audiences, saying, “Aussie fans have always been incredible to me. I can’t wait to come back and share these songs — old and new — on what’s going to be a very special run of shows.”

From arena-filling performances to late-night pub hangs, both Teddy Swims and Rob Thomas are giving Adelaide fans a weekend to remember — proving once again that when big-name artists hit town, Cry Baby is where the after-hours magic happens.
