Ronald McDonald House calls for support on Giving Day tomorrow with double donations

The 24-hour telethon will commence at midday on Thursday, 27 July, with the goal of raising $50,000, equivalent to over 320 nights of accommodation.

Ronald McDonald House Charities South Australia is gearing up for its annual Hearts Unite Giving Day Appeal, an initiative aimed at providing crucial support to seriously ill or injured children and their families.

The 24-hour telethon will commence at midday on Thursday, 27 July, with the goal of raising $50,000, equivalent to over 320 nights of accommodation.

A dedicated team of volunteers will take to the phones, urging the local community to contribute towards the cause.

What sets this year’s Giving Day Appeal apart is the generous backing from McDonald’s South Australia, who will double every single donation received during the 24-hour window. This means that donors have a unique opportunity to make a doubly impactful contribution to RMHC SA’s mission.

Melissa Monkhouse, Executive Officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities said: “Each year we provide life-changing support to thousands of families with seriously ill or injured children, at a cost of $160 a night, per family.

“This is only possible through the help of generous individuals and businesses in our local community, whose support is essential in helping us ensure families can stay together when they need it the most.

“The Hearts Unite 2023 Giving Day Appeal provides a unique chance for our supporters to make double the impact, with all donations doubled for 24 hours only.

“We’re calling on all SA locals to show their support by donating online or calling the hotline across the 24-hour appeal and help us continue to support seriously ill or injured children and their families.”

RMHC SA’s Adelaide branch serves as a home-away-from-home for approximately 320 families each year. Strategically located within walking distance of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital, the charity caters specifically to families who must travel more than 100km from their homes to seek specialized medical care for their children.

A night for families at the Ronald McDonald House Adelaide means:

  • They have an on-site network of families, staff and volunteers who understand what they’re going through.
  • They’re within a five-minute walk to their sick children in hospital.
  • A kitchen full of food and home-made cooked meals two times a week.
  • Freedom from financial pressures via this home-away-from-home so families can focus on their

The Hearts Unite 2023 Giving Day Appeal promises to be a heartwarming and compassionate event, providing everyone with a chance to make a significant impact on the lives of families in need.

RMHC SA calls on all South Australians to demonstrate their support by donating online or calling the hotline during the 24-hour appeal.
