Rory McClaren set to host ABC Radio Adelaide mornings in 2025

Rory McClaren will take over as host of ABC Radio Adelaide Mornings in 2025, succeeding David Bevan.

ABC Radio Adelaide today confirmed the appointment of Rory McClaren as the host for its Mornings programme starting in 2025. Rory will assume the role previously held by David Bevan, who will retire at the end of the year after a lengthy and distinguished career.

Commenting on his new role, Rory McClaren shared his excitement and respect for the legacy left by his predecessor. “I’m thrilled to have been trusted to take over the Mornings program from David Bevan,” he said. “It’s equal parts exciting and daunting to follow his lead.” Rory acknowledged David’s considerable impact on South Australia’s media landscape, describing him as a standard setter in the field.

Rory plans to build on the foundation established by David Bevan and previous hosts, focusing on local issues. He stated, “I firmly believe local voices and stories matter. Local audiences matter, and they will be my priorities.”

Since joining ABC in 2021, Rory has been widely recognized for his roles, including that of state political reporter with ABC News South Australia. His journalism career, which began in 2015, includes extensive experience covering state and federal politics, with assignments in Canberra. Rory’s previous media work spans across various commercial broadcast and print organisations. He is also the President of the South Australia Press Club.

Rory is well-known to ABC Radio Adelaide’s audience, regularly contributing to the “Spin Cycle” programme that airs on Friday mornings to discuss South Australian politics.

ABC Radio Adelaide Manager Graeme Bennett shared his support for Rory’s upcoming transition into morning radio. “We are delighted to have Rory as part of the ABC Radio Adelaide team,” Bennett said. He praised Rory’s capabilities in politics and news reporting, noting his passion for community service. “Rory’s great strengths in political and news coverage across broadcast and online mediums are complemented by his passion for the community he serves,” Bennett noted. “He is an incredible, fresh talent who has already laid the foundations of connection with our audience and he is a natural fit for our long-established role in holding those in power accountable and reflecting the life of our city.”

Rory will officially begin his role as the host of the Mornings show in January 2025. This appointment marks a new chapter for ABC Radio Adelaide, signalling ongoing dedication to providing news coverage and a platform for community engagement through prominent local voices like that of Rory McClaren.
