RSPCA SA opens new designer op shop on Rundle Street

Designer clothing at bargain prices will feature at the chandelier-lit stop, which is raising money to rescue, rehabilitate and care for animals at RSPCA SA’s three shelters.

Lovers of high-end fashion have cause to celebrate with the upcoming opening of a new, inner-city RSPCA South Australia Op Shop, offering designer clothing at bargain prices.

The State-heritage listed store also accommodates diminutive fairies, thanks to the whimsical inclusion of a tiny door in the design.

RSPCA South Australia’s Op Shops Operations Manager Meg Gill sought some answers after noticing the alternate entrance.

“The story I’ve been told is that the founding fathers of Adelaide
built little fairy doors into some of the shop fronts to amuse their daughters.

“About nine were built, but only one remains.

“How sweet that it’s to be found at 238a Rundle Street- our new store.

“We’re thinking of putting some glittery things near the door to
entice the fairies inside at night – a bit like the milk and biscuits put out for Father Christmas.”

The new Op shop on fashion-central Rundle Street will be RSPCA South Australia’s 9th Op Shop, and follows the opening of another new store on The Parade in Norwood earlier this month.

According to Ms Gill, the steady increase in the number of RSPCA South Australia Op Shops reflects the charity’s ongoing focus on maintaining financial security in challenging times.

The new city store’s chandelier-lit interior exudes an opulent ambience in keeping with the luxury labels on sale. The added bonus for fashionistas is that their purchases will contribute to the rescue, rehabilitation and care of animals at RSPCA South Australia’s three animal shelters.

Tomorrow night’s opening comes 54 years after RSPCA South Australia opened its first thrift shop, which was located in Hove. In recent years, all of RSPCA South Australia’s Op Shops have undergone makeovers, transforming them into bright, modern shops. Ms Gill described the Rundle Street store as the perfect space to showcase items with iconic labels like Gucci, Prada, Burberry and Versace.

“It’s amazing what some people donate to us.

“To be able to sell clothes designed by some of the world’s most famous fashion houses in this premium location is a triple win for animals, fashion lovers and the environment.”

The shop, which is located at 238A Rundle St, Adelaide will be opened tomorrow (Friday October 30) by RSPCA South Australia CEO Paul Stevenson at 5:30pm, and will remain open for shoppers til 8pm.

Early shoppers on opening night can take home some give-away
petcare products and treats from RSPCA PetVille. In addition, anyone who finds and photographs their Grand Opening bargain purchase and shares it on Instagram with @rspcasaopshops this weekend will go in the draw for a $50 op shop voucher.
