RSPCA to open first regional Op shop in Victor Harbor

Victor Harbor residents and holidaymakers will soon have a new hunting ground for quality, well-priced clothing and household items.

Victor Harbor residents and holidaymakers will soon have a new hunting ground for quality, well-priced clothing and household items with the opening of RSPCA South Australia’s first regional Op Shop.

RSPCA SA Chief Inspector Andrea Lewis will officially open the new store at 9 am tomorrow.

Located in the town’s centre at 30 Ocean Street, it will be the organisation’s 11th Op shop, with other stores operating in Glenelg, Norwood, Ridgehaven, Sefton Park, Kidman Park, Semaphore, Blackwood, Brighton, Marden and Rundle Street in the city.

The Victor Harbor store will stock clothing, bric-a-brac, jewellery, books, DVDs, picture frames and some pet treats. The store’s manager is Mel Oehlschlager, who has lived in Victor Harbor for the past 13 years. Mel says she jumped at the opportunity to contribute to fundraising efforts that support the care of animals coming into RSPCA’s shelters.

“I’ve always loved animals, and my husband and I currently share our home with two rescue dogs,” Mel said.

“Having worked in the retail and hospitality industries for more than 20 years, this is a dream job for me.”

RSPCA Op Shop Manager Meg Gill says she is equally delighted to have an experienced local retailer with a passion for animal welfare to manage the store.

“We have a lot of support from the Victor Harbor community, so when we were looking for a new location for our next store, this delightful town was the standout,” Meg said.

“School holidays are upon us and many people are planning to spend their Christmas break within the state, so we’re anticipating a busy time at this store over summer.

“We’ve focussed on selecting quality summer and beachwear, with price tags guaranteed to leave shoppers with plenty of holiday spending money, not to mention the lovely feeling of knowing they’re helping to cover the costs of rescuing and caring for our state’s most vulnerable animals.”
